Sean Schimper

I started diving in 1994 and have been teaching since 2000, sharing my passion for the underwater world with students across South Africa and beyond. With over 25 years of diving experience and thousands of dives logged, I bring a wealth of knowledge to every course I teach.

For more than two decades, I owned and managed a dive centre in Johannesburg before relocating to Sodwana Bay in 2023, where I now focus on offering a boutique scuba training experience. My approach is personal and exclusive—no distractions, just dedicated, one-on-one or small group training that allows you to learn at your own pace.

I’ve guided divers through some of South Africa’s most iconic sites, including the Sardine Run, Protea Banks, and Aliwal Shoal, and regularly lead tours into Mozambique, which I consider a second home. I also organise annual international dive trips, from the caves of Mexico and the wrecks of the Red Sea to the critter-rich reefs of Indonesia.

As a Master Instructor with RAID, SSI, and PADI, I teach everything from beginner courses to Trimix technical training (to 100m on open circuit and 45m on rebreather). My favourite courses are sidemount and technical diving, which open up new possibilities for longer, deeper, and more adventurous dives.

Above all, my goal is to create competent, safe, and independent divers with a true passion for the ocean and the wonders it holds. Whether you’re taking your first breaths underwater or training for advanced technical dives, I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way.

Claire Grenfell

Scuba Instructor

Claire began scuba diving in 2002 as PADI seal at just 9 years old and has been teaching since 2013. She gained international experience working as a dive professional in Thailand, Greece, and the Philippines before returning to South Africa to join the Scubaholics & Plan D Scuba team.

With patience, empathy, and a natural talent for teaching, Claire excels at guiding nervous divers and children through their first underwater experiences. She has a remarkable ability to turn fear into confidence, helping students finish their courses as capable, passionate divers.

When she isn’t teaching, Claire loves exploring in sidemount configuration, searching for the smallest and most unusual critters hidden among the reef or sandy seabed—always uncovering the ocean’s little secrets.
